What is Reiki & how does it work?

Reiki

What is Reiki?

I’ve had a reiki when I was in my teens but didn’t really have a clue what it was about. It just felt nice.

During my Reiki 1 attunement workshop, I had no idea what the teacher was going on about.

WTF was “universal energy?”

I was like “This is proper hippy dippy crazy shit!” even for me!

But I listened and did the stuff she said and after the attunement I started my homework as I was instructed and something began to happen.

So, let me just stop here a minute and ask if any of you have ever had Reiki?

Reiki is a very hard experience to describe due to its very nature. And because we are all different and perceive things differently and we are all made of different energies, the experience is very different for each of us.

Every time we have it it’s different actually, Because we are different every day.

My homework was some reading and to practice Reiki on myself for 21 days. This is called a reiki cleanse and is done at the beginning of attunement to help us start to feel our own energy.

During the attunement I was told how everything is made of energy, even us, and external influences and experiences and lifestyle choices affect our energies.

I was still really sceptical.

So to cut it short, I began to feel different.

I began to feel happier and more relaxed and not like I wanted to get in the bin anymore.

This shit was crazy to me still, but it was helping me, so I carried on.

Then I did my Level 2 attunement and then my Masters Level 3.

And everything changed…

Okay so this next bit might sound a bit mental, but go with me…

I felt connected to the universe.

I could feel and influence my own energies and other peoples by using positive intentions and my hands.

It was like magic.

During my training I was having regular Reiki sessions from my Reiki teacher, and they also helped me to begin to heal.

I was able to listen to my body, and my body showed me where it needed healing, and I began to feel like I was getting a bit of control back in my life.

Like I had a bit of power over what was happening for the first time in my life and could actually control it.

I felt like I BELONGED.

Belonged to something bigger than me, something that so many others were connected to, that I belonged to the universe.

I expect this is what being religious feels like, having belief and faith in something big and mighty. And having that sense of belonging.

Yes I know it sounds mental!

And it is!

But it makes me feel happy, and I love how it helps me to heal myself, and now others.

Fast forward 5 years and I am now a Reiki teacher, helping other people to start their own spiritual journey.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki helps us to increase awareness, insight, wisdom and personal growth

Reiki is a Japanese form of alternative medicine called energy healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a “universal energy” is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.
